Tea Tree Oil–How does tea tree oil help hair?
A true “essential oil” for hair, tea tree oil is one of my favorite oils to use in hair and skin products. It smells great, and the tingle you get when applying it is exceptionally satisfying. Tea tree oil works great in helping rid your scalp of dandruff, and kills off harmful bacteria that might be living on your scalp.
Keep in mind, however, that this essential oil is very strong–you won’t want to use it by itself. Either purchase aproduct containing up to 5% tea tree oil, or mix it with a “carrier” oil such as coconut, jojoba, or avocado oil. Before applying any true essential oil to your hair, or using in a natural home remedy for hair growth, research what percentage of any given essential oil is safe to apply to your body.

Argan Oil–How does Argan Oil help hair?
Argan oil is another great oil to help in hair growth home remedies. Produced from the argan tree, argan oil is loaded with essential fatty acids. Like other hair oils, it can help moisturize your hair, reducing split ends and frizz. It can also add shine to your hair, and protect it against damages caused by heat or color treatment.
Beware–many health products that claim to contain argan oil may only have trace amounts. You can buy this oil by itself, and apply directly to hair or use it in your own DIY hair oil project.
You’ll often see argan oil for hair labeled as “Moroccan Hair Oil”. Regardless of what it’s called, argan oil can be a great addition to your hair regimen. High in vitamin e, argan oil when used for hair is a great way to heal your hair, eliminate frizz, and add volume to lifeless hair.
Using argan oil for your hair is also a great way to protect your hair from heat damage, so if you style your hair with heat, or blow dry often, argan oil might be of use to you. Be sure to use argan oil in your hair sparingly; a little of this product will go a long way.
In addition, those who suffer from dry scalp might benefit from the use of argan oil, as is the case with many oils used in natural remedies for hair growth.
Jojoba Oil–How does jojoba oil help hair?
Another great oil to use to promote faster hair growth is jojoba oil. This oil (technically a wax) is produced from a North American shrub, is structurally similar to the natural sebum your scalp produces.
The benefits to Jojoba oil don’t stop with home remedies for hair growth.
Jojoba oil is widely used in cosmetics, and has been touted as a way to delicately remove makeup, moisture the face and body, and condition the lips.
Jojoba oil when used for hair care can help your hair get a healthy amount of oil, and also works to clean out old sebum that might be clogging your hair follicles. Like many of the other oils discussed, jojoba oil has antibacterial properties, and helps to moisturize your hair.

Hemp Oil–How does Hemp oil help hair?

Castor Oil–How does castor oil help hair?

In fact, ancient Egyptians used this oil to help induce labor, and it’s still used in modern times as a purgative. But don’t let those less than appealing facts turn you off from using castor oil for hair–there are many great benefits to using this oil in haircare.
Using castor oil for hair is a great way to provide extra moisture and vitamin e to your hair. Like other hair oils mentioned, castor oil will help lock moisture into your hair so that it stays softer and stronger. Using castor oil for hair growth also provides your hair with a source of Omega 6 fatty acids, and can be helpful in treating split ends.
Castor oil can also be used in hair to help darken your hair, mostly because of how well it helps lock moisture into your hair (giving hair a darker, deeper appearance).
Some users claim that, by massaging it into the scalp, using castor oil for hair is an effective regrowth treatment. This is up for debate, but it’s clear that the antibacterial and antifungal properties of using castor oil for hair can help alleviate some common scalp issues that might impede faster hair growth.
Be careful when using castor oil for hair growth–this oil can be thick, so go easy at first.You’ll want to start small and increase the amount applied as necessary, and some users prefer to use castor oil on only the tips of their hair.

Other True Essential Oils For Hair
Aside from the oils listed above, there are many other great essential oils for hair. However, please note that true essential oils should not be applied directly to your hair–they should be diluted in a carrier oil, as they’re too strong at their regular concentration. Since chamomile oil is great at reducing inflammation, it can be added to a carrier oil to help alleviate many scalp issues that might lead to slow growing hair. Lavender oil is another essential oil that can be used for hair in the same manner.
Thyme, sage, and cedarwood are other great, fragrant oils that you can add to a base of avocado oil, castor oil, hemp oil, or other oils to come up with your own special at home natural hair growth remedy.
There’s nothing fancy about the unassuming avocado; it’s plain jane appearance would lead you to believe it to be dull, tasteless, and less than helpful in helping make your hair grow faster. Nothing could be further from the truth. The lowly avocado is easily one of the most nutrient packed, hair-healthy additions to your diet. Using avocado and avocado oil for hair is a fantastic way to encourage quicker hair growth as well as overall healthier hair.

So…is this thing ripe?
This is probably the most common question people face when first introducing avocados to their diet. Let’s face it, avocados don’t really look like something you’d eat–they look a bit like what you’d expect a dinosaur to hatch from.
Luckily, it’s really not that hard to tell.
First off, avocados do not ripen on the tree, they ripen after they’ve been harvested. If you place the avocado in your hand, and gently squeeze without using your fingertips (which can bruise them), an unripened avocado will have no give. A ripe avocado with give slightly, and an overly ripe avocado will feel almost mushy underneath it’s skin. Hass Avocados will gradually turn from green to an almost purple/black as they ripen. If you have some that are overly ripe, don’t despair! You can use these in making salad dressings and smoothies.
Green avocados, when left out at room temperature, will ripen within four to five days. You can hasten this process by either putting them in a sealed paper bag, or by placing them with other fruit such as bananas.
There are very few food items as versatile as the avocado, and even less that are as healthy, easy to prepare, and fantastic for your health. DIY – Home Recipes
If your diet plan revolves around having healthier, faster growing hair, or simply trying to be in better health altogether, I’ve got one word for you–Salads.
I’ll say it again–Salads. Not your typical American “salad”, which is basically a hunk of friend chicken breast resting on some wilted iceberg lettuce and piled high with cheese, ranch dressing, and croutons. I’m talking about fresh veggies, berries, lean protein, light vinaigrettes–all the things your hair needs to stay healthy, grow quickly, and outshine your friends. I typically eat a salad each day for lunch, and while most are pretty basic affairs–grilled chicken, boiled eggs, and balsamic vinaigrette over baby spinach–occasionally I really like to go wild with my ingredients. Here’s a favorite of mine, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1/4 cup fresh blueberries
- 1/4 cup fresh raspberries
- 1/4 cup dried cranberries
- 1/4 cup toasted walnuts
- 1 large yellow bellpepper, diced
- 3 cups baby spinach or mixed greens
- 1 grilled chicken breast, cubed or sliced
Typically, I grill 3 to 4 chicken breasts each Sunday. I work two jobs, and Sunday is my one day completely off, so I try and make my life easier by preparing food in bulk for the week. The plus side to this is that it makes eating healthier so much easier when I have food that can quickly be thrown together. Basically, all you’re going to do is take all the ingredients above, top with a few teaspoons of your favorite healthy salad dressing (I love honey vinaigrette with this recipe) and toss until your salad is evenly coated with dressing. If you’re a fan of feta or bleu cheese crumbles, either pairs with this salad wonderfully, but it’s not necessary. You can also use salmon in the place of chicken. That’s one of the thing I love about salads–not only can they be tremendously beneficial to helping grow you hair quickly, they’re endlessly customizable. Add your own special twist to the recipe above. Not a fan of walnuts? Try almond slivers. Don’t have one of the berries? Cube an apple.
In the form above, this salad is loaded with healthy protein, iron, omega 3 fats, and vitamins A and C. In short, it’s got just about everything you need to keep your hair healthy and strong, and if you plan ahead, it takes about five minutes to put it all together.
Salmon. If you’re trying to eat healthy and want to get your hair in great shape, you’ll need to include this great source of protein and hair-healthy omega 3 acids in your diet. While I’m a huge fan of using salmon as my go-to protein for most of salads, occasionally I want something a little different. Luckily, it’s pretty easy to incorporate this wonderful fish into any meal, including breakfast. Want to start your day with a filling meal that’ll help your hair grow more quickly? Here’s what you’ll need:
- 5 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/3 white onion, chopped
- 4 ounces smoked salmon
- 1/2 cup chopped asparagus
- 1/4 cup black olives, chopped
- 1/4 cup spinach, chopped
- 6 eggs
- 4 ounces creamed cheese, cubed
Preheat your oven to around 375 degrees. While your oven is heating, go ahead and heat your olive oil in an oven safe skillet (cast iron for the win, guys!) and add in your onion. I prefer my onion on the raw side, but you can cook until translucent if you like.
While your onion is cooking, go ahead and whisk your egg in a separate bowl, adding in a dash of salt and pepper. You can also toss in a bit of milk or heavy cream (just a dash) but I tend to skip it. Set bowl aside when eggs are well beaten.
Once your onion is cooked to your preference, toss in your salmon, olives, and asparagus. Cook for around 3-4 minutes, then add in the spinach. Stir briefly, allow to cook for another minute or so, then add in your already beaten eggs. Sprinkle the cream cheese cubes over top, and continue to cook on medium without stirring, until the very edges appear to become firm.
Once the edges have firmed, remove your skillet from the stove top and place into the oven. You’ll let this dish cook in the oven for another 15 to 20 minutes–by this point, the entire dish should be firm, and the top lightly browned and puffed. Remove from oven, let cool, then slice into wedges. Does life get any easier?
Like most recipes I prefer, this one can be endlessly customized to your taste. You’ve already got a rich source of healthy protein in your eggs, so if you like, skip the salmon and cream cheese, and make a veggie frittata.
