How to take care of your frizzy hair?
Frizzy hair is sensitive to heat and moisture. The latter are absorbed by the scalp hence frizz. Although there are products dedicated to the maintenance of frizzy hair, you will have to adopt the right gestures. A bad habit will only dry the scalp which is not our goal.
Fragile, frizzy hair requires regular and thoughtful maintenance. In this article, you will find what are the right gestures to adopt to maintain your frizzy hair? What products should be avoided and why?
Sulfate is the No. 1 enemy of frizzy hair
Sulphate is first and foremost a detergent. It is present in most shampoos sold on the market. Powerful, this ingredient dries the scalp. In other words, it eliminates sebum which is essential for the growth and hydration of hair. That said, many brands produce revitalizing and sulfate-free shampoos. Examples include Moroccanoil, OGX or DevaCurl. Some are available in pharmacies.
Avoid products containing alcohol
Just like sulfate, products containing alcohol cause the scalp to dry out. As an action, this component absorbs moisture. In addition, your hair will become brittle and will present frizz. To overcome this problem, give preference to the use of styling creams and hair oils.
On frizzy hair, styling creams as well as hair oils:
- give volume
- improve the texture of your hair
- facilitate detangling
- moisturize the hair
- give shine
The use of these products varies from one manufacturer to another. To find out how often you should use them, refer to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Do not wash your hair with hot water
In case you don’t know, wash the frizzy hair with warm water dehydrates the scalp. Given its effect, this practice is not recommended. Just touching your hair regularly creates more frizz. Some are used to playing with their strands right after they have washed them. In order not to damage your hair, do not hesitate to apply styling products. For the case of frizzy hair, give preference to creams.
Note that how often to wash your frizzy hair depends on everyone’s habits. The best practice would be to untangle right after shampooing. Washing your hair once a day will take you time. Note all the same that an excess of sebum makes the scalp very oily. This accumulation will not simplify hydration. After 2 or even 3 weeks without shampoo, the hair becomes dull, hard, britper and very difficult to style. If you have frizzy hair, one shampoo per week is enough.
Dry your hair with a microfiber towel
To dry this hair, each of us has our own habits. Most often it is a matter of rubbing the hair with a towel. If the quality of the fabric is not at the rendezvous, its use promotes the formation of frizz. In addition, rubbing frizzy hair with a hard-haired towel attacks the cuticles. By being wet, the hairs become very fragile.
To wipe your hair, use a microfiber turban. This avoids touching them. Let everything dry in the open air. Its coating absorbs water and moisture. Because of this, you will not be forced to rub.
Limit the use of hair dryers, flat irons and straightening irons
Just like moisture, hair does not withstand heat. If you have frizzy hair, reduce the use of heated styling tools as much as possible. If you need to use a hair dryer, flat iron or smooth, apply a thermo protective spray.
Thanks to a protective layer, a thermo-protective spray protects the cuticle from heat. Its application allows you to have:
- shiny hair
This product nourishes frizzy hair while bringing shine. It also simplifies styling and limits the formation of frizz. This product can also be coupled with a conditioner without rinsing and a revitalizing cream. The Fructis Sleek & Shine is a perfect example. Rich in fruit proteins, it combines very well with argan oil. By penetrating the scalp, the mixture confers a shine.
- simplifies hairdressing
Most thermo static sprays contain so-called thermoactive substances. They improve the effectiveness of hair dryers, flat iron and smoothing. The blow-dryings take place very easily. As for your hair, it will be protected against heat and temperature rises.
To avoid damaging your frizzy hair, set the device to the lowest setting.
Hair dryers benefiting from ion technology produce negative ions. They promote the smoothing of the cuticles. If your hair dryer is equipped with a smoothing nozzle, install it. To dry them well, start with the roots and then finish with the tips.
Brush your hair only when needed
On frizzy hair, brushing stretches the strands. In the long run, this action tends to break the hair. Before brushing them, we advise you to apply a styling product. For this, use your fingers. Make sure your hair is still wet. Avoid brushing them when they aredry. Start with the roots and then end with the spikes. By doing so, the sebum present on the scalp will be distributed along the length.
As a brush, we recommend models with boar bristles or made of nylon. Softness is the key to good brushing.
Use the right shampoo
Each shampoo is intended for a specific user profile. For the case of frizzy hair, choose the following formulas:
- Moisturizing shampoo: not containing the slightest trace of sulfate, this shampoo is ideal for frizzy hair. It cleans the scalp and benefits from a moisturizing action. This is made possible thanks to emollient agents such as oil of vegetable origin and humectants, namely aloe or panthenol.
- Clarifying shampoo: this product prevents the accumulation of fats. It is used once a month and should be followed by a moisturizing shampoo. By operating in this way, your hair will not be dry.
- Clays: Clay is known for its ability to give shine. It also softens the stem. Due to its softness, white clay is suitable for frizzy hair. Remember to add olive oil, mineral water and an egg. This mask helps to moisturize and fortify the roots.
To make this mask, here are the steps to follow:
- Mix 4 tablespoons of white clay powder, egg yolk and mineral water. Make the dough homogeneous.
- Add 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- Starting with the root, apply the mask
- Wait half an hour
- Wash your hair
- Make 1 to 2 shampoos. Apply this mask 1-2 times a week.
- Co-wash: poor in cleaning agents, this product is defined as a hair conditioner. Its use makes it possible to space the shampoos especially in winter.
