What is the hair care for dry and frizzy hair?

There are many, many different types of hair, and if you naturally have frizzy hair, there is not much you can do about it. Your hair type is determined by your genes, and you can only ensure that it looks its best. You cannot change your hair from curly to straight, except by undergoing professional hair straightening treatment, which is generally not advisable.

Hair that is very curly often tends to become dry and frizzy, and this is because of the natural structure of the hair itself. Normally, the scalp produces sebum, a protective and lubricating oily substance, and this sebum naturally spreads all over the hair.

With straight hair, and even with wavy hair, this happens very easily, but the curlier hair is, the more difficult it is for the sebum to reach all the way to the end of each strand. As a result, curly hair often stays dry, and people often end up in what seems like an odd situation – they have dry hair, but oily scalps.

The best and simplest way to solve this problem is to comb your hair regularly; this helps spread the sebum from your scalp over your hair.

There are a few things to be kept in mind however – if your hair tends to get knotted, you should never use the comb to open the knots. You should use your fingers to do this, and even then, disentangle your hair gently and slowly. You can then continue combing your hair.

The comb should run through your hair smoothly, and should not be used to open knots, as this will usually end up breaking and damaging hair. You should also never comb your hair when it is wet, as it is very likely to break at this time.

If regular combing does not solve your problem, then perhaps your scalp is not producing enough sebum to begin with. In this case, you will need to start oiling your hair regularly.

Depending on how dry your hair is, you can determine a suitable frequency. Oil should ideally be applied at night, and should be massaged into your scalp as well as applied all over your hair.

In the morning, wash it out with a suitable shampoo – hopefully you are already using one meant for dry hair, but even so you may need to try a different brand. If you do not already use conditioner, you should start using one that is meant especially for dry, frizzy hair.
